The T-Sisters and California Honeydrops in Niles Plaza August 8th

The first annual Niles Town Plaza Summer Concert Series continues with it’s 5th free show in the historical Niles District of Fremont. Sunday, August 8th features 3 acts – the Louisiana blues and jazz of The California Honeydrops, the innovative sibling harmonies of The T Sisters band, and the celtic and traditional tunes of The Red Shoes duo. Every two weeks, a concert takes place in the plaza, featuring Americana, Blues, Folk, Bluegrass, Jazz, Pop, Country, & World Music. Also mark your calendars for August 22nd, when the plaza will feature the rockabilly and cool country of two Alt-Country bands – 77 El Deora, and Mississippi Rider.

More about the artists featured at the August 8th Niles Town Plaza Summer Concert:

The California Honeydrops are rapidly gaining popularity in the Bay Area and in recent months have enjoyed two sold-out shows at Yoshi’s and well received appearances at Rancho Nicasio, Great American Music Hall, and the Freight and Salvage. Their music is wonderful, the band is energetic and fun. Digging deep into the roots of American music, they embrace the traditions of Blues, Gospel, Second Line New Orleans Jazz, and early R&B. With stellar performances of traditional material as well as their own innovative music, The California Honeydrops rock the house!

The T-Sisters are Erika, Rachel and Chloe Tietjen, a trio of sisters based in the Bay Area. They create original music and rediscover a variety of classic tunes. Their three-part harmonies fit smoothly together as only sibling harmony can, with an old-timey, sometimes Appalachian feel. Their music brings together country, blues, folk, and pop-rock, lending the group a unique feel that defies definition. Their band includes Ramsey Tietjen, their father, on the lead guitar, and Isaac Puglia on the djembe.

The Red Shoes perform Traditional and Celtic music on fiddle and cello. This Hayward duo features teenaged sisters Lucia and Flavia Purpura-Pontoniere, who were recently discovered playing a show at the Niles Library on I Street — they were booked on the spot as special guests in the plaza series. Don’t miss them!

More about Niles:

Niles is a charming old train town. The beautiful new plaza features lots of picnic area, a lawn amphitheater, a restored 1900s train station, and a view of the cattle covered hills. Unique shops, artisans, and restaurants populate the 4 block downtown, and a real steam train carries passengers through Niles Canyon every Sunday at 11am, 12:30, and 2pm (a 14 mile ride for just 10 dollars!). Niles is Mayberry with a twist, a town that time forgot – but you won’t!

What to bring:

There are 4 large shade canopies provided by the Niles Main Street Association. Listeners might consider bringing some shade of their own, along with low lawn chairs, picnics, & sun screen. If you can’t pack a picnic, don’t worry – several restaurants are adjacent to the plaza and have ‘to go’ lunches. Please no alcohol, and please keep the plaza clean. This is a family friendly event!
